IceInSpace interviews professional astronomers, amateur astronomers and other figures of interest in our community, and finds out what makes them tick.

If you've got any suggestions of someone you'd like to find out more about, or someone who might like to be interviewed by IceInSpace, please contact me.

Dr David Malin

Dr David Malin is Australia's most recognised professional astrophotographer, working as a photographic scientist-astronomer at the Anglo-Australian Observatory (AAO) for over 25 years.  It was there he developed new image enhancement techniques which won him international acclaim, including the Lennart Nilsson Award in 2000.

Mike talks to David about image processing and over-processing, CCD vs Film, his past and future, and more..

Professor Steve Squyres

Professor Steve Squyres is the lead scientist and Principal Investigator on the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) mission, where the two robotic rovers Spirit and Opportunity are still doing amazing science after more than 1000 days on Mars. He's also the Professor of Astronomy at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York and is a member of the imaging team for the Cassini mission orbiting Saturn.

Mike talks to Steve about the ups and downs of the MER Mission, the recent announcement of new water found on Mars, what it's like and what it takes to be a planetary scientist and principal investigator, his past and future, and much more..

Terry Lovejoy

2007 has already been a big year for comets, with Comet McNaught (C/2006 P1) putting on a spectacular display in January. Well it’s not over yet! Long-time IceInSpace member Terry Lovejoy (CometGuy) has just discovered a new comet, C/2007 E2 (Lovejoy), his first such discovery - and the first ever comet discovery using an off-the-shelf digital camera!

Mike talks to Terry about his discovery, his methods and how it feels to finally find what he’s been searching for.
